Commercial Property for Sale in Midtown
Midtown is the name given to the part of central London that lies between the West End and the City. It takes in Holborn, Bloomsbury and St Giles, and its main streets are High Holborn, New Oxford Street, Kingsway and Southampton Row. The name is a modern one, but the district is long established as a home for law firms, publishers, universities and professional bodies. In recent years large technology and media companies have moved in as well, drawn by new buildings such as Central Saint Giles.
Morgan Pryce advises businesses and investors who want to buy in Midtown. We act only for the buyer. If you want to lease, see our guide to office space to rent in Midtown. Our pages on Holborn and Bloomsbury look at those neighbourhoods in more detail.
Transport is a major strength. Holborn station has the Central and Piccadilly lines, Chancery Lane the Central line, and Russell Square the Piccadilly line. Tottenham Court Road on the western side and Farringdon on the eastern side both have the Elizabeth line, so the whole district is within reach of it.
Commercial Property for Sale in Midtown: Choice Across Three Neighbourhoods
Commercial property for sale in Midtown covers a wider range than most central London districts, because the area brings together three neighbourhoods with different building types.
Around High Holborn and Kingsway there are large office buildings from the early and mid twentieth century. In Bloomsbury there are Georgian terraces and squares. Around St Giles and New Oxford Street there are modern mixed-use schemes. Commercial space for sale in Midtown can therefore suit anything from a ten-person practice to a corporate headquarters.
Opportunities include:
- Self-contained office buildings on and behind the main roads.
- Georgian townhouses used as offices.
- Office floors on long leases in larger buildings.
- Older office blocks suitable for refurbishment.
Values have traditionally been lower than in Mayfair and St James’s and comparable with, or below, the City core. For many businesses that makes Midtown the most practical place in central London to own a building. Work out the floor area you need with our office space calculator.
Key Checks Before Buying Commercial Property in Midtown
Buying commercial property in Midtown means comparing quite different buildings, so a consistent set of checks is useful.
- Location within Midtown. The western side relates to the West End and the eastern side to the City. Consider where your clients and staff travel from.
- Tenure. Holborn has more freeholds. In Bloomsbury, where the Bedford Estates is the main landowner, long leasehold is more usual.
- Local authority. Most of Midtown is in the London Borough of Camden, with small parts in Westminster and the City of London.
- Building age. Twentieth-century blocks may need new services. Georgian buildings are often listed, which restricts alterations.
- Energy rating and tax. Check the EPC if you will let space. Stamp Duty Land Tax applies and VAT may be charged.
Midtown suits businesses that deal with both the West End and the City and want good value in a central location.

FAQ
Midtown is the part of central London between the West End and the City. It includes Holborn, Bloomsbury and St Giles, and its main streets are High Holborn, New Oxford Street, Kingsway and Southampton Row. Most of it lies within the London Borough of Camden.
Midtown offers self-contained office buildings, Georgian townhouses in office use, office floors sold on long leases, and older office blocks suitable for refurbishment. The range is wide because the district covers three different neighbourhoods.
Values in Midtown have traditionally been lower than in core West End areas such as Mayfair and St James’s. Combined with strong transport links, this makes it a practical choice for businesses that want to own a central London building.
Holborn station has the Central and Piccadilly lines, Chancery Lane has the Central line, and Russell Square has the Piccadilly line. The Elizabeth line is available at Tottenham Court Road to the west and Farringdon to the east.
Morgan Pryce acts only for buyers. We search marketed and off-market buildings across Holborn, Bloomsbury and St Giles, give RICS-qualified advice, negotiate the price and terms, and manage the purchase to completion.

Fantastic all round service from MorganPryce. Fraser really does go above and beyond. He found us an amazing site for our new studio and saved us a lot of money negotiating the lease as well. Now he has assisted with other parts of the business to push forward and develop us further. I am delighted with Frasers work and would highly recommend his services.Posted on Google![]()

We are very grateful for Dean Johnson and Eugene O’Sullivan’s excellent support throughout the whole process. This included step-by-step guidance on exiting a lease agreement, negotiating the schedule of dilapidations, close liaison with our lawyers, choosing between a serviced or managed office, reviewing our very specific requirements – especially on image and identity, and offering regular catch-ups and several viewings. We are delighted by our new office and could not have done it without Morgan Pryce.Posted on Google![]()

Dean Johnson and Eugene O'Sullivan helped me secure our office space in Mayfair. They were incredibly helpful and diligent, supporting me through the whole process. They managed all negotiations and secured a great price in a challenging situation. Should we ever move office in the future, I wouldn't hesitate to work with them again.Posted on Google![]()

I started the search for a London office back in 2019 with Eugene. During this time our requirements changed quite dramatically and Eugene was able to adapt to our requirements. He understood my requirements and also gave his input which was extremely valuable as I was not based in London and Eugene was able to give advice based on his knowledge and his experience in this sector. We found a property that matched our requirements and have recently moved in. I would definitely use Eugene again as he made the process easy with his search and coordination and he was very patient and accommodating to our changing brief. Would 100% use Eugene again in any future office search.Posted on Google![]()
